Syarah Arkanul Baiah: A Guide to the Principles of Islamic Da'wah
Da'wah, or the call to Islam, is one of the most important duties of every Muslim. It is the way to spread the message of Allah and His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to the world, and to invite people to the path of guidance and salvation. However, da'wah is not a simple task that can be done without knowledge, sincerity, action, sacrifice, and perseverance. It requires a clear understanding of the Islamic creed, the objectives of da'wah, the methods of da'wah, and the challenges and obstacles that may face the da'i (the caller).
One of the most comprehensive and concise books that explain the principles of Islamic da'wah is Syarah Arkanul Baiah, or The Explanation of the Pillars of Allegiance, by Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab (may Allah have mercy on him). This book is based on a famous poem that summarizes the ten pillars of allegiance that every Muslim should adhere to in order to be a successful da'i. These pillars are:

Al-Fahm (Understanding): To be certain that our view is the Islamic and correct view, and to understand Islam as it is explained in the twenty fundamentals.
Al-Ikhlas (Sincerity): To seek only the pleasure and reward of Allah in all our words, deeds, and struggles, without being motivated by personal interests, appearance, luxury, rank, title, position, or anything else.
Al-Amal (Action): To act upon our knowledge and sincerity, as Allah says: "And say: Work; so Allah will see your work and (so will) His Messenger and the believers" (Quran 9:105).
Al-Jihad (Struggle): To strive continuously and persistently until the Day of Judgment, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever dies without having fought or having thought of fighting, he dies on one of the branches of hypocrisy" (Muslim).
At-Tadhiah (Sacrifice): To sacrifice our lives, wealth, time, existence, and all our potentials for achieving our goal. There is no jihad without sacrifice. Every sacrifice in our cause will not be in vain, but will be rewarded greatly and generously by Allah. Whoever does not want to sacrifice with his fellow Muslims in jihad for the sake of Allah will be sinful and will bear its consequences.
At-Ta'ah (Obedience): To accept and execute the commands quickly, whether in ease or hardship, whether we like it or dislike it.
At-Thabat (Steadfastness): To remain firm and consistent in our work and jihad until we achieve our goal or die as martyrs. We should not give up or lose hope, even if our goal seems far away or takes years to reach.
At-Tajarrud (Totality): To purify our view from any influence of other teachings or leaders. We should follow only the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him), as understood by his companions and their successors.
Al-Ukhuwwah (Brotherhood): To bond our hearts and souls with the bond of faith. Faith is the strongest and most noble bond. Brotherhood is based on faith, while division is based on disbelief. The main strength is unity, and unity cannot be achieved without love. The lowest degree of love is to have a pure heart free from any ill feelings towards other Muslims. The highest degree of love is to prefer others over ourselves.
At-Tsiqah (Trust): To feel secure and confident in our leader's ability and sincerity. We should not doubt or question his decisions or actions, but rather support him and cooperate with him.
