Don No. 1 is a 2007 Telugu-language action film directed by Raghava Lawrence and starring Nagarjuna, Anushka Shetty and Raghava Lawrence in the lead roles. The film was produced by M. L. Kumar Chowdary on Sri Keerthi Creations banner and marked the debut of Raghava Lawrence as a music composer. The film was released on 20 December 2007 and was average at the box office. The film was later dubbed and released in Hindi as Don No. 1 in 2008 and in Tamil under the same title.

Plot

The film revolves around Surya (Nagarjuna), a poor man who becomes a benevolent gangster and helps the underprivileged sections of society. He is supported by his friend Raghava (Raghava Lawrence), who is also a gangster and shares his vision of helping the poor. Surya's life takes a turn for the worse when a Pakistani criminal named Feroz (Kelly Dorji) enters his territory and challenges his authority. Feroz wants to eliminate Surya and take over his empire. He also kidnaps Surya's love interest Priya (Anushka Shetty), who is the daughter of a police commissioner. Surya has to face Feroz and his army of goons in order to save Priya and his people.

Reception

The film received mixed reviews from critics and audiences. The film was praised for its action sequences, performances and music, but criticized for its weak story, screenplay and direction. The film was also compared to the 2006 Tamil film Pokkiri, which had a similar plot and was also remade in Hindi as Wanted in 2009. The film was a moderate success at the box office, but failed to meet the expectations of Nagarjuna's fans. The film's Hindi dubbed version, however, became very popular among the North Indian audiences and made Nagarjuna a household name in Hindi belt. The film's Hindi dubbed version has over 99 million views on YouTube.
